Are you going on vacation soon? You may be excited to travel and see new places. But if you’re an Invisalign patient, you might have several questions running through your head about traveling with the aligners. Luckily, being away from home while undergoing orthodontic treatment does not have to be hard at all! An orthodontist in Cumming shares a few tips and tricks to help you stay on track with your treatment plan.

Pack the Essentials

While preparing your travel bag, make sure you pack a kit that’s filled with dental essentials. If you already had an existing travel kit, it probably has everything you need to care for your Invisalign aligners while away from home. Regardless, here are some essential items you should include in your kit:

  • Toothbrush – You should pack multiple travel toothbrushes in various convenient locations, such as your suitcase, carry-on, and handbag. That way, you’re always able to clean your teeth after eating or drinking!
  • Floss – Don’t forget to pack some dental floss! You’ll need to be able to clean between your teeth thoroughly at least once a day.
  • Mouthwash – Rinsing with an antiseptic mouthwash is a great way to clear any lingering debris that brushing alone can’t eliminate.
  • Extra Aligners – If you’re going to be away from home for a few weeks, you’ll likely need to change your aligners during that time. Take some extra sets with you and keep them in a safe place.

Stay On Top of Your Routine

Vacation is a great time to wind down and take a break from the daily grind. However, that doesn’t apply to your dental care responsibilities. You must continue to brush at least twice a day and floss every night before bed to keep your smile healthy. Don’t forget that you still need to meet the mandatory 22 hours of wear time with your aligners! Set a timer while eating or drinking so you don’t fall behind on your progress.

Bring Extra Aligners

It’s a good idea to bring an extra set of aligners just in case. That way, you can easily stay on track with your treatment plan while traveling. And if you lose an aligner, don’t panic! Contact your dentist or orthodontist and they’ll provide you with instructions on what to do in the meantime.

Make Sure the Tap Water Is Safe

Depending on where you’re going, you may need to be cautious about the water you’re using. If the tap water is unsafe to consume, you should not use it to brush your teeth or rinse your mouth. Make sure you always have a bottle of safe water on hand so you can use that instead.

Let Your Dentist Know Before You Depart

Before leaving for vacation, schedule an appointment with your dentist or orthodontist. They’ll monitor your progress and share advice to help you stay on track with your treatment plan while you’re away. They can also discuss making any adjustments to upcoming appointments if you have extended travel plans.

Are you ready to go on vacation? By following these tips, you can ensure traveling with Invisalign is smooth sailing and hassle-free!
