4 Tips for Returning to Work with Braces
March 21, 2023
You have finally done it. You have made the step toward the straighter teeth you have always wanted: you got braces! You are looking forward to finally being able to have a confident, aligned smile. However, despite the excitement, you are a bit apprehensive about going back to work with your newly attached metal brackets and wires. Fortunately, with a little preparation, you can make the transition easy and effortless. Here are four helpful tips for returning to work with braces.
1. Bring a Braces Care Kit
Work can be nonstop once you arrive, but you still will have to make time to care for your braces, too. To make it easy and convenient without interrupting your schedule, prepare a braces care kit to bring along with you. You can pack a toothbrush and toothpaste so you can brush after you eat. You will be able to easily keep your teeth free from any stuck food debris, as well as freshen up your breath. Another very helpful thing to place in your kit is dental wax. You will want to keep this handy to be able to tend to any minor irritations that can occur from your new braces. Other things to include can be over-the-counter pain relievers and ChapStick to keep your lips moistened.
2. Carry a Water Bottle
Staying hydrated is not only great for your overall health but can keep your mouth in top condition as well! By keeping a water bottle near you while you work, you can keep your smile refreshed as you wash away any food particles that could get stuck in your braces. You also will want to minimize the amount of sugary or dark beverages you consume; water will help you to stay full and give you something to sip on. You can even add some pieces of fruit for a bit of extra flavor and nutrients!
3. Preplan Your Meals
There will be a time of adjustment as your mouth gets used to your braces. You will want to mostly stick with softer foods, like smoothies, yogurt, pasta, and soup. To help you ward off the temptation to grab a sticky or hard snack from the vending machine when hunger strikes, it’s best to bring your own lunch and snacks. You can pack an array of delicious foods that will also help your new journey with braces. Alternatively, you can also look up restaurants near your office and check out their menus. By picking out braces-friendly choices beforehand, you will be prepared for an unexpected lunch meeting or a day when you don’t bring your lunch.
4. Smile!
While your picture-perfect pearly whites haven’t arrived yet, there’s no reason to keep them hidden. A confident, genuine, and bright smile not only makes others feel great but make you feel better too. Don’t let the brackets and wires of your braces make you self-conscious. After all, they show that you care about your appearance and bettering yourself! You can also grin knowing that before long your newly aligned smile will arrive soon.
